Packing - Oh what a chore!.
Checklist & info.
If you’re anything like me then you would have started getting bits and bobs together months in advance for university and have a million different lists!! I’m not exactly the most organised person in the world (I put it down to all my creativity...) but with the almighty chore of getting everything ready to go I think a check list is essential.

Documents - Passport photos, Driving licence (or some sort of ID), TV licence, CV with references, Bank details, Address book/email contacts/phone numbers, Old textbooks & notes, Doctor & Dentist details, Exam certificates, Room insurance, and other University documents.
Kitchen - Corkscrew & bottle opener (essential!!), Crockery, Cutlery, One-person casserole dish, Small frying pan, Saucepan with lid, Tin opener, Scissors, Chopping board & knife, Vegetable peeler, Cheese grater, Wooden spoon, Spatula, Tea towels, Washing-up stuff, Easy to follow recipe book, and Chopsticks (if you’re feeling adventurous). Some store cupboard
ingredients like Coffee, Tea, Sugar, Salt, Pepper, and Pasta are always handy to have around.
Bathroom - Wash bag, Toilet roll, Toothbrush & paste, Soap, Shampoo & conditioner, Nail clippers, Deodorant, Hair gel/spray, Hair brush, Razor & shaving cream, Lip balm, and whatever else you use to make yourself look beautiful!
Healthcare - Multivitamins, Painkillers, Birth control, Basic first aid, Some cold/flu remedy (for the inevitable freshers’flu), Pro-Plus, and any allergy and medication stuff.
Studying (yes you will have to do some!!) – A pad of lined paper, Printing paper, A4 folders, Pens/pencils/highlighters, Scissors, Sticky tape, Stapler, Hole punch, Post-it notes, Paper clips, White tac (so it doesn’t mark the wall), Stamps & envelopes, and whatever else they recommend you to get for your course (they’ll send you an equipment list).
Electrical - Alarm clock (maybe 2 in two different locations in your room to make sure lectures are at least attempted, even if you carry on sleeping there!), Calculator, Computer and/or laptop, USB drive, Printer, Network cable, Mobile & charger, CD player, TV, Camera, Headphones (so you don't disturb others when you play music loud), Batteries and don’t forget a Multi plug adaptor/extension lead.

Housekeeping - Febreeze, Laundry bag, Clothes horse, Coat hangers (you may not get any in wardrobes), Duster, and Washing powder.
Bedding - Sheets, Duvet and duvet covers, Pillows & pillow cases (did you know the average used pillow is 75% dead flesh? Eww), Mattress cover, and a Sleeping bag (for friends to come to stay).
Clothing - Dressing gown, Slippers, T-shirts, Jumpers, Trousers, Underwear, Socks, Shoes, Trainers, Swimwear, Shirt and tie for any smart-casual events and Ball gowns/eveningwear (for the Freshers’ Ball).
Leisure - Sports gear, Bike, Raincoat, Umbrella, Board games, Pack of card, Ball or whatever takes your fancy.
Style - Posters, Photos of family and friends, Rugs (to hide the mangy carpet), Fairylights/disco ball/lava lamp, Cushions/beanbags, A throw, Pot plants... something to show your mum your living in a semi-decent place.
Miscellaneous - Alcohol, Sweets, Extra storage, Large suitcase, A spare light bulb, Torch, Pen knife, Loose change (for washing / vending machines), Earplugs, Matches, Safety pins, and a Clock.
So, I think I’ve covered all bases. Obviously there are a few extra things that you might need or not need and you should contact your university accommodation officer to see what they provide (general appliances etc) but I hope this has been some help! I’m really not looking forward to cramming everything in to the car and driving for about 6 hours, but it’ll be worth it I’m sure. Good luck!!
