Steampunk

Steampunk was initially a subculture associated with fantasy & sci-fi, but with it's growing ties in the goth & punk subcultures it has been developing in the alternative fashion scene.

Steampunk derives from fantasy and sci-fi usually set in the 19th century or Victorian era; with steam powered technology playing a part. Alongside more advanced technology not usually associated with the era but done in an antiquated style.

Steampunk as a fashion has developed from the genre, mostly tied in with the fanbase of steampunk novels. With historical elements being taken on board alongside fantasy & futuristic elements.

Steampunk fashion takes on victorian pieces such as bustles, corsetry & petticoats with goggles, piercings & rayguns as accessories to the look. So a Steampunk outfit could consist of cog like goggles, a vintage patterned corset & bustle skirt with chunky boots. Having elements of both victorian & cyber goth styles, but the futuristic cyber elements are usually more set in with a sci-fi or fantasy genre style, as opposed to being futuristic.

Steampunk fashion does have a large fascination with vintage & historical pieces. You can find some steampunk influenced attire & pieces from the following places:
