2010 see's Carnaby street's 50th Anniversary; with a year long celebration of the sixties, the decade in which Carnaby became an iconic fashion destination.
Throughout 2010, various events will take place in the area featuring elements of fashion, design and music celebrating the last five decades and looking to the future of Carnaby.
Kicking off this month with an exhibition and book launch by dress historians and curators Judith Clark and Amy de la Haye which will include a detailed history of the area, from the 16th Century to the present day, focusing on the sixties.
The exhibition is a unique 3D timeline which illustrates key people, events and happenings in the area from being a green field site 500 years ago, to the iconic characters associated with Carnaby’s music heritage such as The Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols and Jimi Hendrix.
The exhibition; 38 Carnaby Street, will be open from 26th February until the beginning of April 2010 with free entry.
It will be followed by a series of events throughout 2010 to celebrate Carnaby’s 50th Anniversary including a live music weekend in June and a unique fashion show in September.
