Model feature : Pooki Rae

Alt model Pooki Rae is as multi-talented as they come, originally starting out as a photographer & theatrical make up artist, her modelling work is yet another artistic extension of herself.

How did you start modelling? Was it something that you always wanted to do, or did it just 'happen'?

As an alternative photographer and MUA, modelling for me was the next creative avenue to explore that would really give me the opportunity to express myself as an individual, and also as an artist.

How drew you towards alternative modeling?

My freelance work and career is based wholly around the alternative scene and everything it incorporates, and all these factors have ultimately led to modelling!

Do you have any fellow models or heroines who have inspired you?

I really couldn't pin-point any specific individuals, I find all alternative models inspiring as collectively there is a real portfolio of diversity and variety which I'm very proud to be a part of.

What kind of shoots would you like to work on in the future?

I adore anything that has a strong theme to it, I see photo-shoots almost as mini-films, were there is a distinct narrative that follows each image. Right now I'm currently planning a zombie pin-up themed shoot which will involve bloody-pies and pretty-gore being cooked up in the kitchen!

What has been your biggest modelling achievment so far?

There have been so many in such a small space of time it's hard to choose! If I had to pick one it would definitely be my Mermaid Shoot where I was showcasing my MUA skills.

My photographer on that shoot was Bekah Baker of Twisted Pix, who is the friendliest photographer I have ever encountered, which made all the difference when achieving my image. The end result was so perfect and we were both so chuffed, so much so that the photograph has been featured in a few magazine publications, it was a dream come true!

How did you discover your paticular interest in alternative fashion? Are there any companies or designers that you'd like to work with?

I've always been incredibly passionate about alternative fashion, and as a manager of a Liverpool-based alternative clothing store I know what's popular, and there's a lot of fantastic brands out there! My personal favourites and companies I would love to work with include; Collectif, Lovechild Boudoir, Miss Fortune, Sourpuss Clothing and Phaze. To name but a few!

What are your goals & aspirations for the future?

My goals and aspirations for the future are to remain creative, whether it be in modelling, photographing or make-up work. I am always keen to network and take on jobs that I have never done before, which also applies to meeting other fellow artists within the alternative scene. I am also currently in the process of making my own jewellery adornments and producing custom pieces, so watch this space!
