All about Alt fashion

History

Alt fashion was launched back in 2006; the result of mammoth research following what at the time was a lack of resources for alternative fashion within the UK.

Frustrated with only finding results for alternative fashion sites in the U.S; a project was drafted up & Alt fashion was born.

The site launched in March 2006; covering alternative fashion of all sorts in the country, from regular news updates, as well as city features, & articles on alternative styles.

It was the result of months of research, tottering around cities armed with a compact camera, and a few pleading emails to raid shops in the north; but Alt fashion was born.

Following the success of the launch, and astounding feedback from sites and readers, work went underway to expand with a printed magazine to run alongside the site.

With a small army of contributors, and companies lined up to produce content for the first edition Alt fashion zine was launched in July 2006. Covering a broader & more descriptive range of content from the site; looking at companies, features, & photo shoots too.

Alt fashion magazine was recieved with open pvc clad arms by companies, sites, and readers across the country. With such a warm welcome the magazine continued, running with a 4 issue print run per year.

Not long after the links directory site; altfashiondirectory.co.uk was also born, following the influx of link requests to the site.

Since then the zine has also grown & changed plentifully over the years; now covering a wide range of designers, & shops, with features from events, artists, articles of interest, & much more printed 3 times a year. Focusing on content more fitted to the print medium, with more up to date features online.

As a non-profit run venture; Alt fashion still aims to cover not just alternative, but also independent fashion relevant to the scene. With such competition in the mainstream marketplace today, the need to find something truly original & fitting to your own personality is still crucial to the scene. Here at Alt fashion we try to merge the two; showcasing unique talent, alongside news from more mainstream friendly labels too.

Fresh into 2010 Alt fashion is an ever growing prescene in the alternative fashion scene; with regular coverage on our news blog, now updated daily; regular content, and a continuing database of companies, shops, and sites over at our directory.

With the 4th birthday of the site and magazine this year we're looking ever more to continue well into double figures and hopefully expand across the country to more outlets and independent shops.
